# Clustered Chart

> Displays the clustered bar chart sorted by sales descending, with Ribbon Chart hidden. Use to compare current year vs prior year sales by continent.

# Bookmark: Clustered Chart

**Status:** Active Development
**Created:** 2024 (estimated)
**Last Updated:** 2025-12-24
**Author:** Alexandru BADIU

## Business Purpose

This bookmark provides a **value comparison view** optimized for:

* Comparing current year sales vs prior year sales side-by-side
* Quickly identifying top-performing continents (sorted by sales value descending)
* Analyzing sales performance with clear value-based ranking

**Use Case:** Best suited for users who need to compare actual sales values and identify highest/lowest performers, as opposed to seeing the flow/ranking visualization provided by the Ribbon Chart.

## User Scenario

**When to use:**

* When you need to compare CY vs PY sales values directly
* To quickly identify which continents have the highest sales
* When value magnitude matters more than ranking flow
* For users who prefer traditional bar chart formats over ribbon visualizations

**Expected behavior:** Activating this bookmark displays the Clustered Bar Chart (sorted by sales descending) while hiding the Ribbon Chart, maintaining Year=2019 and Gender=Male filters.

## Technical Overview

## Behavior Description

When this bookmark is activated:

1. The **Clustered Bar Chart** (visual 34f97140074284eaa8de) becomes visible, displaying:
   * Category: Customer.Continent
   * Ordered by: Sales\[Sales] in **Descending** order (highest sales first)
   * Shows side-by-side comparison of current year vs prior year sales
   * Bars make it easy to compare magnitude of values

2. The **Ribbon Chart** (visual ed774ceec96dd040ac19) is hidden from view

3. **Year filter** is set to 2019 across the entire page

4. **Gender slicer** is set to show only Male customers (using "Contains 'Ma'" filter)

5. Both chart visuals maintain the same underlying filters for Customer dimensions and Sales measures, ensuring data consistency when toggling between bookmarks

## Important Notes

⚠️ **Key Behaviors:**

* **Data Suppression Enabled:** This bookmark has `suppressData: true`, meaning it only captures the visual display state, not the data state at the time of creation
* **Visual Toggle Pattern:** This is the inverse of "Ribon Chart" bookmark - they show/hide opposite visuals
* **Sort Order Difference:** Unlike the Ribbon chart (sorted by Continent/Country ascending), this chart sorts by Sales value descending, making it easier to identify top-performing continents
* **Filter Scope:** The Year=2019 filter applies to ALL visuals on the page, not just the targeted visuals
* **Value-Oriented:** Best for users focused on comparing actual values rather than ranking flow

## Dependencies

**Model Measures:**

* `Sales[Sales]` - Current year sales measure (used for sorting)
* `Sales[Sales PY]` - Prior year sales measure

**Other Bookmarks:**

* **Ribon Chart** (3c04be006f1ebff4ddc5) - Complementary bookmark showing ribbon chart view
* **FocusSpecific** (a87d1123fc3c1c928935) - Complex state-dependent bookmark that uses this clustered bar chart
* **Reset Filters** (77f6391b96f7c17022ed) - Resets to default state (Year=2023)

**Visual References:**

* Clustered Bar Chart (34f97140074284eaa8de) - Primary visual for this bookmark
* Ribbon Chart (ed774ceec96dd040ac19) - Hidden by this bookmark
* Gender Slicer (bf11a6fb91dc9f853419) - Filtered state maintained

## Maintenance Notes

**Performance Considerations:**

* Clustered bar charts generally perform better than ribbon charts with large datasets
* Descending sort by measure is computed efficiently

**Known Limitations:**

* The bookmark targets specific visual IDs - adding new visuals to the page won't be affected by this bookmark
* Gender filter uses "Contains" which may match unintended values if data model changes

**Testing Notes:**
When making changes, verify:

1. Clustered bar chart appears when bookmark is activated
2. Ribbon chart is properly hidden
3. Year filter correctly applies 2019
4. Gender slicer shows Male selection
5. Continents are sorted by Sales in descending order (highest first)
6. Toggle behavior works correctly between Clustered and Ribbon bookmarks
7. Measure references (Sales, Sales PY) are still valid in the model
8. Side-by-side bars for CY and PY are displaying correctly
